Stafford High School, Stafford,VA; BA and MEd from Lynchburg College. Married to
Rebecca Counts Averett; father of two; grandfather of six; and great-grandfather
of 3. Mrs. Averett is a native of Bedford. He taught social
studies/history/government in Lynchburg City Schools for 29 years until retiring
in 1991. Employed at Jones Memorial Library for 20 years as Public Services
Coordinator. Frequent speaker for historical, genealogical, and lineage

Genealogist, Lynch’s Ferry, and the national magazine of the Daughters of
the Confederacy, as well as indices for the US Censuses of 1880 and 1900 for
Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Nelson Counties, and 1910 for the City of
Lynchburg. He also indexed the Lynchburg for chancery case notices from 1794
